‘100+’ Charity mixed doubles 2008

Ayr Carrick tennis club president for 2008, Mr Archie Gilchrist, presenting a cheque for £221 to the Ayrshire Hospice. In August tennis players from Coylton, Stewarton and Ayr Lawn tennis clubs joined Carrick members for a mixed doubles tournament in aid of charity. The event, which started 8 years ago, consists of mixed doubles pairings whose combined ages should be at least 100 years and a collection is taken for a local charity. This year Carrick members nominated the Ayrshire Hospice as the charity for 2008. With a record 38 players involved with the age range of competitors running from under 30 to a few very sprightly upper 70s, a friendly but competitive afternoon of tennis in perfect conditions was enjoyed by all. Afterwards competitors and spectators enjoyed afternoon tea served up by the Carrick ladies.
